As of 29th September 2025, Nottingham University Hospital is now able to accept referrals for and perform mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in acute stroke patients round the clock. This means no matter what time of day or night, if a patient is suitable for this incredibly effective intervention,

NUH are able to receive and treat the patient, whether locally from their own ED, or from any of the regional stroke units across the East Midlands.

In the first 6 weeks since introducing this 24/7 service, NUH have already successfully carried out over 20 of these interventions during their newly extended hours, suggesting around 175 extra patients per year may benefit from this potentially life saving treatment.
